Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 – Gather Your Supplies

For the V60 pouring method, you will need some basic supplies. To get started, you will need a V60 dripper, your preferred brand of a paper filter, freshly ground coffee beans, and hot water (ideally between 195-205°F). You will also need a carafe or mug to put your finished product into.

Step 2 – Rinse the Filter

Before adding any coffee grounds, it’s important to rinse the paper filter with hot water. This process helps remove any leftover flavors from the paper as well as preheats your carafe or mug. Once finished rinsing, throw out the excess water and place your filter into the V60 dripper.

Step 3 – Add Ground Coffee

Next up is adding ground coffee beans into the filter. Be sure to use freshly ground beans for optimal flavor! Before adding your grounds into the filter, shake it slightly so that it forms an even layer in the bottom of the filter cone. Afterward, use a spoon or tamper tool to level off and flatten out the bed of grounds before moving on to step 4.

Step 4 – Pour Water Onto the Grounds

Once your grounds are leveled off and in place, it’s time to start pouring! Start by slowly pouring hot water onto the center of your grounds in circular motions until they are completely covered with water (about 50-75% capacity). Then wait about 30 seconds before continuing with step 5.

Step 5 – Continue Pouring the Water

Finish filling up your dripper with more hot water until it reaches full capacity (about 300 ml). From here you should be able to see liquid dripping from the bottom of your dripper and into whatever vessel you have underneath (mug or carafe). Once all of your liquid has been extracted from your filters, discard them along with any remaining grounds, and enjoy!
