It’s tough to make strong coffee that doesn’t taste bitter, so we’re here with 6 awesome tips to make your coffee stronger and taste better!

Whether you’re brewing your own coffee or just looking to grab a stronger drink from the coffee shop down the street, these tips will work for you!

Tip 1: Add More Grounds

This may sound simple, but you might just be adding too much water to your brew! If you’re brewing with a siphon or a pour over, there’s a good chance you’re not grinding enough beans or you’re adding too much water. Either way, not having the proper ratio is going to leave you with watery coffee!

We have guides on nearly every brewing method out there! Make sure to check them out and follow the instructions to the letter. We’ve tested our guides out dozens of times with different roasts to make sure that you’re able to brew the best, strongest coffee!

If you’re at a local coffee shop, there’s a good chance that your coffee is brewed in bulk. There’s not much you can do here, but it doesn’t hurt to ask them which is the darkest roast they have!

Tip 2: Buy A Darker Roast

The type of roast you’re brewing with dictates, more than anything, what it will taste like.

We know, that seems pretty obvious. However, we’ve found that most people don’t understand that the same bean will taste completely different if it is heated to a blonde roast or a French roast.

If you’re looking for a strong cup of coffee, we recommend going with a darker roast. Generally, dark roasts taste more robust and much stronger, whereas lighter roasts tend to have subtle tasting notes!

Tip 3: Try A Different Brewing Method

If you haven’t check out our articles on different brewing methods, you’re missing out. We make them available for you any time in our brew section.

We recommend trying out the french press, the siphon, or the pour over if you’re looking to make a strong cup of coffee. These brewing methods allow you to customize the amount of grounds you brew and the temperature at which the grounds are brewed!

Tip 4: Switch To Espresso

If you’re looking for a new drink to try, espresso is one of the strongest drinks out there. It’s bold, it’s smooth, and it’ll give you the kick in the pants you need to get your morning started or to keep your night going!

The downside to espresso is that it goes down pretty quick and can leave you with jitters if you’re not careful! But, if you’re looking for a strong coffee, go ahead and try it out.

Tip 5: Cut The Cream and Sugar

Two cream, four sugars? If you’re drowning your coffee in creamer and sweeteners, it’s probably not a surprise why you think your drink is a tad on the weak side!

We get it, learning to drink black coffee is not the easiest thing to do, but we did happen to put together a helpful guide to get you off the creamer and straight to the black cup of joe! Once you are able to get on black coffee, you’ll open yourself up to a new range of roasts, origins, and subtle tasting notes of the most moderately-priced beans.
